The clash of the CoreMark Titans

2015

With ST and TI getting quiet this month, Reneasas is taking center stage with a new family of devices tackling heavy filtering applications. With 4.16 CoreMark/MHz the new RX231 is getting close to the 5 CoreMark/Mhz of the Cortex-M7 based STM32F756 and past the Microchip PIC32. Will Freescale and Atmel get into the clash of the titans?

Atmel
This month, nothing fancy, we just have a new VFBGA package option for the SAMS70N19A.

Freescale
After the nice findings (RCP package technology) of last month, we have 14 new parts split in 2 groups.
The MKV for Motor Control & Power Conversion, is getting new parts in the low end (Cortex-M0+ based). The initial part numbers were 16 and 32 kB of Flash, now we are seeing 12 additional parts with 64 and 128 kB.
Also, the MKM34 is getting more Flash going from 128 to 256 kB.

Nice price changes this month with MK22 hit by -5 to -30% decline. A few part numbers increased, MK24FN1M and MKM34.

NXP
NXP was very quiet this month on the product front following the acquisition of Freescale.

Pricewise, there was no significant change.

Renesas
Renesas announced the new RX231 focused on power efficiency and filtering to serve the industrial sensor and healthcare markets. The 90 new devices (P/N R5F5231***) embed the latest RXv2 core capable of a whooping 4.16 CoreMark/MHz. The family reaches a low 0.8uA in standby mode with SRAM and register retention while it consumes 120uA/MHz with the CPU is active. The lineup ranges from 48 to 100 pins and 128 to 512 kB of Flash. Samples are available now. Pricing starts at $2.05/10ku for the R52315ADFL 128 kB Flash / 32 kB RAM, LQFP48.
The RL78 for its part has been cut by 319 parts, mostly the low end RL78: R5F100 (-88 parts to 241), R5F101 (-112 to 129), 102 (-13 to 26) and 103 (-13 to 13) and 104 (-93 to 248).

There was no price change.

SiliconLabs
Ah, no product change this month for Silicon Labs.

No price changes.

ST Microelectronics
Light changes at ST this month with merely tape and reel and increased temp versions of existing products. C’est la vie.

ST price changes were focused on STM32F100C8T7 and STM32F407ZGT7 (+10%) while a handfull of STM32F4 part numbers went down -7 to -24%.

Texas Instruments
Very quiet at TI this month. Only 3 products removed: MSP430F413/5/7CY

No price changes this month for TI .
